While remaining Bishop of Alexandria, today the Holy Father has also appointed me to serve as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Shreveport. I will serve in this capacity until the installation of the next Bishop of Shreveport.
In making this appointment, Pope Leo accepted the resignation of Bishop Francis I. Malone which he presented over a year ago on his 75th birthday. I join the priests and people of the Diocese of Shreveport in thanking Bishop Malone for his six and a half years of service as a bishop and his 49 years of service as a priest. I wish him every happiness in his well-deserved retirement.
I am in Shreveport this morning for the announcement. I will be serving both dioceses for the foreseeable future, and I expect to become very familiar with I-49.
Please keep the Diocese of Shreveport in your prayers during this extended time of transition, and please pray for me as I undertake this additional responsibility.
