Brief History

Holy Savior Menard Central High School has continued the tradition of Catholic education in Alexandria for more than 120 years.  In 1893, Father Leonard Menard and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart opened a boys’ school named St. Francis Xavier Commercial College.  Later renamed Menard Memorial High School, it offered a quality Catholic education to area male students until 1967 when Menard was united with the area girls’ school, Providence Central Academy, to form Holy Savior Menard Central High School at its present location.  In 1988, grades 7 and 8 were added to the school.

Since being named Holy Savior Menard Central High School, the following have served in the position of Principal:  Fr. Hugh Bigger, Fr. Douglas Hawkins, Fr.
