Ongoing renovations at Maryhill Renewal Center

Thousands of people attend retreats and functions held at Maryhill throughout the year and as such, the grounds and facilities require a great amount of maintenance.

The ongoing renovations at the North-side Youth Center include fresh new flooring and ceiling tile, the kitchen counters were replaced with stainless steel tables and stainless steel shelving. The hot food service bar on the dining area side was updated with a new stainless steel serving unit.

Future plans include filling in the old swimming pool adjacent to the Youth Center and remodeling the old bathhouse located there into restrooms.

On the South Side, the chapel is undergoing an update to the confessional with new paint, lighting and removal of a door. The sanctuary sound system equipment area has been remodeled with a partition and new flooring. A new sound system will also be installed soon.

Also currently, some overdue forest management is occurring in the wooded acreage of the facility. Large, older growth trees are being removed to allow younger, healthier trees to thrive. This will also allow more flexibility and greater access to some of the remote areas.

Bishop Charles Greco’s original intent was for the income generated from harvested timber to fund the ongoing maintenance of the 187 acre property and its buildings so that Maryhill may continue to serve as the spiritual heart of the Diocese of Alexandria for years to come.
