Inserted in the cross close to the bottom is a piece of original floor tile from under the high altar of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church in Natchitoches. It serves as a touchstone.
During the Rite of the Opening of the Jubilee Year 2025, the center section of the cross was used during the ceremony and in the procession and then placed back into the Cross.
The base is made of white oak and pine.
The estimated weight of the cross is over 400 lbs.
The Cross will be on display in the Cathedral throughout this Jubilee Year 2025.
