As we watch the approach of Category 4 Hurricane Beryl – a strong storm so early in the season – we are reminded that we have traditionally sought the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title Our Lady of Prompt Succor, for protection from injury and damage due to hurricanes. Here is one prayer:<\/div>\n
Our Father in Heaven through the intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, spare us during this Hurricane season from all harm. Protect us and our homes from all disasters of nature. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.<\/div>\n

PRAYER FOR PROTECTION THIS HURRICANE SEASON<\/strong><\/p>\n

O God, Master of this passing world,
\nhear the humble voices of your children.
\nThe Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude.
\nYou are still the Master of land and sea.
\nWe live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control;
\nthe Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant,
\ncan awake from its seeming lethargy,
\noverstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land,
\nand spread chaos and disaster.
\nDuring this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father.
\nSpare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid,
\nand whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time.<\/p>\n

O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother,
\nwe ask you to plead with your Son of our behalf
\nso that spared from the calamities common to this area
\nand animated with a true spirit of gratitude,
\nwe will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son
\nto reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where a stormless eternity awaits us.
\nAmen.<\/p>\n
