USCCB calls for a Day of Prayer for Peace in Our Communities

Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has invited all dioceses to participate in a Day of Prayer for Peace in our Communities on Wednesday, September 9th, the Memorial of St. Peter Claver.  His call echoes that of Bishop Shelton Fabre of Houma-Thibodaux, the Chair of the USCCB’s Ad Hoc Committee Against Racism, who asked all to fast and pray on that day.  In the first part of the Seventeenth Century, St. Peter Claver worked among the enslaved African people in present-day Colombia.  It is fitting that we invoke his intercession for an end to racism and for a renewed respect for the dignity of every human life.  For a link to prayer resources you might use on that day, click HERE.

Bishop Robert Marshall will celebrate the 12:05 p.m. Mass on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral for the Day of Prayer for Peace in Our Communities. To watch the livestream visit St. Francis Xavier Cathedral’s Facebook page.
