In this month’s issue:
Fasting for others’ sins: what does it mean?
As the Church as a whole processes the information of the recent clerical abuse scandals, several of our church leaders have pointed out the importance of taking action, particularly taking up the act of fasting as penance for others’ sins. See page 5 to learn what this means.
Protecting God’s Children
The program, which is a component of the VIRTUS Awareness Training program of National Catholic Services, is required for all clergy, employees, and volunteers who work with children in our diocese. Read more about this program on page 14.
If you suspect sexual abuse of a minor by a cleric, church worker or volunteer, FIRST call the LA. Child Abuse Hotline, (855) 452-5437 and/or your local law enforcement — THEN, call the diocesan Victims Assistance Coordinator, Dr. Lee Kneipp, (318) 542-9805.
