In response to the recent School Board Meeting held in Avoyelles Parish and the approval of a 4-day school week, the Pastors, Principals, Superintendent and Catholic Schools Office Staff met to discuss the effects of this decision of the Board and its effect on our schools.
We are in consensus that the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Alexandria located in the civil parish of Avoyelles will maintain a 5-day school week for the 2019-2020 school year.
Thomas Roque, Sr., superintendent, has stated that “decreased instructional minutes will have an adverse effect on our students and maintains that this is not what we want for our students.”
Bishop David Talley charged Diocese personnel to do what is in the student’s best interest and to “put at the forefront of the decision made, student academic advancement and faith formation”.
Pope John Paul II’s belief that “Catholic education aims not only to communicate facts but also to transmit a coherent, comprehensive vision of life, in the conviction that the truths contained in that vision liberate student in the most profound meaning of human freedom.
