Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Jan. 18-25, 2018

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be observed in our diocese with an Ecumenical Prayer Service led by Bishop David Talley on Friday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. Bishop Talley will preside and be the keynote homilist and will be joined by Rev. George Richard Snow of St. Timothy Episcopal Church, Rev. Grady Blackwell of First St. Mark Baptist Church, and Rev. Ashley McGuire of First United Methodist Church of Alexandria. A light reception will follow at Cathedral Hall immediately following the service.

Tailgate with Jesus Gumbo Cookoff

Bring the whole family for a day of fun and fellowship Jan. 20 for a Tailgate with Jesus Gumbo Cookoff at Maryhill Renewal Center.

Gates open at 7:00 a.m. for non-cook team members. Mass with Bishop David Talley begins at 9:00 a.m. Gumbo will be served at 12:30 p.m.

Vote for best gumbo team with a $5 voting ticket.  Team with most votes, wins.

From the first Vigil Mass on the 24th of December 2017 through the 8th of January 2018, the Baptism of the Lord, you and I … as missionary disciples of Christ the Lord and members of the world-wide Roman Catholic Church … we have celebrated the Christmas season. Why so? Christmas, the Nativity of the Lord, defines the depth of our lives, today and each day we live and move and have our being.
