Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Don’t leave hungry

Some folks will always set out food when you visit their homes no matter what time of day it is. If you’re smart you learn to drop by when you’re good and hungry! Jesus never let anyone walk away hungry either—even if it meant setting the table for 5,000. His mother foretold that fact in her great song, the Magnificat: “He has filled the hungry with good things.” When tired of the junk food the world has to offer, pray Mary’s Magnificat (Luke 1:47-55) in faith that God will fill you with good things.

Today’s readings: Sirach 17:1-15; Mark 10:13-16 (346).
“Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, but is a day of fasting and abstinence.  This means that we do not eat meat and we have only one full meal.

Mass times below are for Ash Wednesday, March 1. If your church is not listed, contact your church parish office for Mass times.

Bishop David Talley assumes role as bishop

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Ronald P. Herzog from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Alexandria.

Bishop David P. Talley, who, up until now was the coadjutor bishop, will succeed him as the 12th bishop of Alexandria.

The appointment was made Feb. 2 in Washington by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

A Mass of Thanksgiving will be held Monday, Feb. 27 at 12:05 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral to give thanks to God for the episcopal ministry of Bishop Herzog.
