FEB. 2-3: ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) WORKSHOP. Attention all teachers, social workers, youth leaders, and parents – did you know that the suicide rate in some civil parishes in Central Louisiana exceeds the national average? St. Rita Church is sponsoring a 2-day ASIST training workshop Feb. 2-3 at the St. Rita Holy Family Center. ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is an international, evidenced-based workshop that teaches participants how to interact with a person at risk for suicide. Workshop trainers are provided by: SaveCenla (local non-profit organization), the LA National Guard, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the American Red Cross. Workshop tuition is $50 and includes training materials, lunch and snacks for both days. 12.5 CEUs for social workers and psychologists will be provided. Anyone 16 years-old and older may participate. The workshop is limited to 45 participants. Pre-registration is required and closes on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
