St. Francis Cabrini School

Welcome

Our PK-8 school campus is located in a quiet residential section of Alexandria.  We strive to live out our mission of providing a “sharing, feeling, caring” Catholic environment.  Cabrini students are becoming empowered citizens of our global society where we will further Christ’s mission with vision, compassion, and zeal.  In addition, we promote excellence in all areas of the curriculum from the basics to extra curricula activities.  The creativity and unique talents of our students are enhanced through such activities as art, piano, computer, and P.E. classes; sports program; student council projects; special celebrations, contests, assemblies, and programs.  We are committed to building each child’s self-esteem by developing wholesome attitudes and positive self-image.  Our goal is to also bring forth a community spirit where together we learn to serve others and to experience the worship of God together in prayer and in liturgical celebrations.

Brief History

In response to the increased Catholic population after World War II, St. Frances Cabrini School was established on Sept. 8, 1948 to provide a Catholic education for the children of St. Frances Cabrini Parish of Alexandria, Louisiana. The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word accepted this mission, offered by Bishop Charles P. Greco, so that the orphan children they cared for next door could be educated in a parochial school.  St. Frances Cabrini School opened in temporary army surplus barracks with 220 pupils.  In 1953 the new brick school was completed ahead of the new church building of 1981.  Today, Cabrini is still faithful to its original purpose and has expanded to include grades Pre-Kindergarten–8th  The school now serves a more diverse population, accepting the children from the surrounding rural/urban areas.  Cabrini is proud of its legacy and continuing service to the mission of Jesus in the world today.
