St.
Edward’s is a growing parish, experiencing the expansion of
southeastern Grant parish as a bedroom community of the
Pineville/Alexandria area. Predominantly family oriented, St. Edward’s
also has a fair share of ‘golden’ members as well, and a good many
vacationers who come and go with the seasons at the various camps
throughout the Fishville area.
We
have enjoyed several activities this past year that parishioners are
looking to continue in coming years: Oktoberfest in October,
celebrating the anniversary of the establishment of St. Edward’s around
October 13th (whichever Saturday is nearest); Advent family night; an
Easter/Spring picnic; May crowning; and other activities just waiting
to be planned.
Our church is
one of the better kept secrets of Alexandria Diocese. All wood, the
building is somewhat half-round, and the back wall behind the altar
faces into the forest. The wall is one huge window looking into the old
growth trees of the Kisatchie forest.
Before Mass on Saturday at 4:30 pm.
St.
Edward’s has a Pre K-11th grade CCD program that meets Wednesdays from
6:30-7:30PM in the hall and Church. To provide supper for working
families and the opportunity for parishioners to get together, we have
Keith’s Kitchen a supper prepared by the pastor or volunteers served at
5:30PM for those needing to get an easy supper before CCD. $4.00 will
get you all you can eat till the food runs out or the kitchen closes at
6PM. We also plan seasonal activities of a spiritual and secular nature
(for example, summer pool parties or Stations of the Cross) for the
young people to provide opportunity for them to grow in their faith as
part of our faith community.
Like
St. Mary’s, RCIA is offered every autumn for those wishing to become
Catholic or for those looking for a refresher course in Catholicism.
Mass
Ministries are available for those interested in participating in the
Mass in a unique way: lectors, Extraordinary ministers of the
Eucharist, music ministry, altar servers, and ushers.
Young Adult Ministry: meets the first Wednesday of the Month and does one other activity on a monthly basis; for Seniors in High school to Thirty-somethings.
Altar
Society: In service to the care of the altar and sacred vessels, this
group also prays together and works actively with all the other
activities in the area for St. Edward’s Church.
The
Quilters: on Thursday evenings at Skip Converse Hall; in conjunction
with /as an activity of the altar society. Every Thursday beginning
around 7, a group meets to quilt and share together in the parish hall.
Quilts are donated or sold to raise money for parish needs through the
altar society.
