Plaucheville is located in Avoyelles Parish at the junction of Bayou Jack and Bayou Choupique. It was founded in the 1840's by three brothers--Etienne, Francois and Visitant Plauche.

In 1874 the people of Plaucheville banded together to build a church and it was completed in the spring of 1875. The name of the church was Assumption Church but the name was changed in 1876 to "Notre Dames des Sept Doleurs" (Our Lady of Seven Sorrows--Mater Dolorosa).
